How Many Ads Do You See a Day?

So I was taking to this woman yesterday about self-image and society. She said, 'Did you know, that the average person sees approximately 5000 advertisements a day?' I was shocked and in disbelief. I thought how is that possible, 5000 ads?! That didn't seem right, I knew I had to find out the answer so I did a little research and believe it or not she was right.

This woman went on to explain that a great percentage of those ads are directed towards women and their appearance, and that even if we are not intentionally absorbing these ads like reading magazines, or watching t.v, these ads are everywhere you turn and our minds are unintentionally absorbing them. Ads are everywhere, on bus stops, benches, billboards, on our phones, on the internet, on BLOGGER, and so on and so on! It's definitely overwhelming.

It seems like it's almost a little bit like brainwashing, okay a lot like brainwashing! Scary!! Anyone would have a hard time turning their backs on that amount of messages sent their way.

We are being targeted to buy, buy, buy! We are shown that we should have the newest gadgets, the best clothes, the best homes, the best diets, etc. But do all of these material items really make us happier? The ads will just keep on coming, and we will never have enough.

There is this guy named Timothy Leary, he was activist in the 1960's I believe. He told people to think for themselves and question authority. I never really bought into the questioning authority part. Although that may make me sound naive, what I mean is I thought obeying laws and following rules was important. But as I grow older and now that I have a family of my own, I'm starting to see things differently.

As children we are for the majority of our growing up, told what to do and what to think. But as adults I think it's so important to question everything we are taught as children. It's important to know if what you're parents told you about life makes sense in your adult life. Also what you were told by your teachers, religious figures, the media, your peers, and society, does it work for you now? As for myself I feel like I'm waking up, and now I'm asking myself that important question, does this fit for me?? Does seeing 5000 ads a day work for me?? I think not.

Here's a link to an article about the same issue:

So, THINK FOR YOURSELF AND QUESTION AUTHORITY. AND...Have a great day : )

To my evolution....cheers!

It's hard not too be affected by people, hey we live amongst 6 billion or so of them. Obviously it's quite hard not to be. So staying on my path, the right path is sometimes hard. I try to speak my truth, but at times, when in difficult situations my truth can be confusing.

The other day I got into an emotional conversation with someone. It had been a LONG time coming and I didn't say everything that I really wanted to, but I said enough and some of what I had to say was with a lot of anger. It was an intense conversation, and it was hard not to get angry. But I wonder now, did I say too much?

Because I'm EVOLVING, I'm starting to do things differently. It's almost like I'm having to relearn who I am and how to do things all over again. And having healthy, productive relationships; which includes communicating in healthy ways is one of them. Part of me questions what I said to this person, these issues with this person had been eating me up for years, but on the other hand, did I have to say all that I said??

I don't know. I do feel better, because I was honest with the person. But I have this other part of me that's saying, 'was it really necessary, did it really change anything?' That person is who they are, and just because at times they drive me crazy with their egotist ways, is it my right to tell them what I think of them??

I don't know, and I guess that's life. Sometimes we say or do things that we're not too sure about, and sometimes we'll never know if it was the right or wrong thing to do. But all I have to say is, that after I said what I had to say, I felt RELIEF!!

So I believe I have to suck it up, and deal with what's coming, and stand in my own truth. LIFE!!! It can be hard, but I feel there's always something to be learned.

Peace out! And keep evolving. ; )

Thank-you

I had a really good heart to heart with someone today. They just listened and then talked a little and then just listened again. Ever have an unexpected cry? It almost comes out of nowhere, but when it's over you feel like a thousand pounds has been lifted off your shoulders? Well that's how good this conversation was...it was just that good. : )

I still have no answer to my question (see posts below). They have no answer for me yet. I'm still scared, but I thank-you my friend for listening to me today, you are a marvelous person. I see you like an amazing flower, your blooming before my eyes. Your approach or should I say your soul is soft, it's softening, and thoughtful and you're becoming the authentic version of yourself. And I was lucky enough to be witness to that today. I was lucky enough to get a part of that.

Until next time my friend.
